confidence intervals, covariate analyses?

The standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) computed until the time of first immunomodulatory treatment were 0.60 (95% CI, 0.38-0.92, p = 0.02) for all female cancer, and 1.11 (95% CI, 0.64-1.91) for all male cancer. Time-dependent covariate analyses for female breast cancer yielded a relative risk for drug1 of 3.10 (95% CI, 0.86-11.1) and 0.52 (95% CI, 0.07-4.05) for drug2.

1) How likely would female patient on drug1 get breast cancer ?
3.10 divided 0.52, 6 times ?

Prostate Cancer Statistics

By koby On August 18, 2009 2 COMMENTs

In this video, Hans Rosling briefly reviews the risk of getting diagnosed with, and the risk of dying from, prostate canccancer in the world.

The data is compiled by IARC ( International Agency for research on Cancer) in Lyon, France. The most striking is the high rate of diagnosis per 100 000 men in USA and some countries in West Europe. In contrast, Japan has a very low rate and the most probable explanation is a genetic predisposition in men of European origin. The data is displayed in bubbles for each country and the color of the bubbles refers to the continent where each country is situated.

How can I calculate the number of people with cancer if I know the population size and incidence per 100,000?

I have the population of each state and the cancer incidence per hundred thousand in each state- how can i calculate the number of people with cancer?

For example the population of Texas is listed as 22,968,248 they have a cancer incidence rate of 427 per 100,000 how many people have cancer?

I’m horrible at math!
