Does anyone have valid advice on how to change your diet to help fight breast cancer?

Any proven vitamins, supplements that you suggest also? Any evidence that this builds immune system, fights spreading, etc.?

Many nutrients found in plant foods have been linked to reducing cancer risk. For example, diets rich in the phytochemical lycopene may reduce the risk of prostate cancer, fiber-rich diets have been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer, and choosing a diet low in fat helps to prevent breast and other types of cancer.

Oxygen is essential to life. But, as oxygen is used in the body, some of the oxygen molecules become very unstable. These unstable oxygen molecules, called free radicals, can attack cell membranes and even damage the DNA (genetic code) in the nucleus of the cell.

What you don’t know about hot dogs could kill you. This cancer Project commercial is based on a 2007 report from the American Institute for Cancer Research. The report concluded that hot dogs and other processed meats are a convincing cause of colorectal cancer. The risk increases by 21 percent for every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily. A 50-gram serving is approximately the size of a typical hot dog. Learn more at www.CancerProject.org.

On Cancer, Part II: Prevention

By koby On August 6, 2009 25 COMMENTs

Second in my cancer series.

No gruesome pictures here, and no prevention tips either, not in the video. The subject is too large to fit into a 10-minute video. Instead, I’ve provided some information on slides to remind you of the scope of the cancer plague in the USA. My *real* tips for cancer prevention can be found in this text blog:

http://urgelt2.spaces.live.com/

Warning: it’s pretty long. If you go there with 5 minutes to spend, you’ll come away frustrated.

Comments on the text blog are welcome.

Statistics in this video are from http://www.cancer.org/downloads/STT/CAFF2006PWSecured.pdf.

[UPDATE, June 5, 2007: I've just learned this link to stats is now defunct. I don't have another source to point to at present, sorry.]

Aspartame, Brain Cancer & the FDA Approval Process (Sugarfree Light Diet Coke Zero E951)

By koby On July 24, 2009 25 COMMENTs

The approval of the artificial sweetener aspartame (E951) was the most contested in FDA history. The approval was not based on scientific grounds but was due to heavy political and financial pressure.

Aspartame was ‘discovered’ in 1965 by Searle, a Chicago drug company. The FDA finally approved aspartame in 1981, even though scientific research had clearly shown that aspartame caused brain cancer in lab animals.

The tests Searle used to determine the safety of aspartame were severely flawed. Searle used unscientific lab practices, falsified data and withheld crucial information during the FDA approval process.

Because aspartame caused brain tumors in lab animals, it poses a real cancer risk to humans as well. Cancer is increasing in western countries and will soon be the leading cause of death.

Aspartame (E951) is now used in more than 6000 products and millions of people worldwide use the sweetener on a daily basis. In addition to causing
