Each neighborhood, culture, family, or community have different ways of sharing information. One thing we found while in South Carolina was quite unique. News and even advice is spread through barbershops and salons. With many people spending hours in a salon a week, it all seems so natural. We heard of an initiative by a gentleman named Gerald Footman to spread the word about colon canccancer and raise awareness of this deadly disease through those avenues.

Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Cancer

The star of ‘Dirty Dancing’ and ‘Ghost’, Patrick Swayze is suffering from pancreatic cancer.

But, his doctors have denied reports that he has weeks to live and say the actor is responding positively to treatment. Sky’s Showbiz Correspondent Steve Hargrave reports.

It is estimated that colon canccancer will kill 50,000 people in the United States this year. But found early, that number could be lowered substantially. So why do so many still die from it? The answer and the solution can be found in a medical laboratory in Cleveland, Ohio.

A team of researchers led by Sanford Markowitz, M.D., Ph.D. at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has found a way to detect colon cancer quickly and non-invasively.
