infant mortality rates are higher in the U.S. because we send more preemies to the NICU. in europe the rates “appear” lower because of how they classify babies that pass away shortly after birth, they classify them as never born. the result is a lower infant mortality rate.

The Resveratrol craze is taking the world by storm. With international media coverage, more and more people are learning about Resveratrol and the wonderful benefits of taking it. Scientists in Italy derived the first positive result of Resveratrol supplementation in a vertebrate in 2006. Using a short-lived fish, with an average life span of about nine weeks, the scientists found that a dose of Resveratrol increased the median lifespan of the fish by a whopping 56%!

Resveratrol comes from various plant sources such as vines, peanuts, Japanese Knotweed and the skin of red grapes. It is a constituent of red wine, and has been used to explain the French Paradox. In grapes, Resveratrol is found mainly in the skin, and in muscadine grapes it’s found in the seeds as well. Red wine contains between 0.2 and 5.8 mg/L of Resveratrol depending on the grape variety. White wine generally contains much less than red. The reason is that red wine is fermented with the grape skins, allowing the wine to absorb the resveratrol, whereas white wine is fermented after the grape skin has been removed.

The dynamics of Resveratrol’s effects on life extension are not yet fully understood, but appear to mimic several of the physiological effects of calorie restriction. Calorie restriction causes a natural reaction in the body that boosts metabolism, makes blood flow better, fat burn more efficient, and over all health improve. Reports indicate that Resveratrol activates the Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and PGC-1α genes and improves the functioning of the mitochondria.

As ever more research is being done on Resveratrol, scientists are finding more and more uses for this beneficial natural supplement. Several no-cost personal grants can be obtained if you happen to belong to a certain group.

Vietnam Era Veterans’ Educational Assistance is one example of free grants allocated by the government to an individual.

Vietnam Era Veterans’ Education Assistance is money extended to individuals or families through an agency of the U.S. government. The objective for this one is to provide educational assistance to persons who entered the Armed Forces after December 31, 1976 and before July 1, 1985. Another objective for this personal grant is to allow these veterans to obtain education, and thereby promote a voluntary military program in the U.S. by attracting qualified persons to the service.

To be eligible for this Vietnam program, the applicant must have served honorably on active duty for more than 180 continuous days beginning on or after January 1, 1977. If you were discharged after such date because of a disability acquired in line of duty then you are qualified. Applicants who served more than 180 days and completed first period of obligated service or 6 years of active duty whichever comes first are also eligible for free personal grants under this program. Satisfactory contribution of a monthly deduction of $25 to $100 from military pay from participants is also required to qualify for free personal grants. Lump sum contributions made before March 31, 1987 are allowed.

The American Cancer Society has a program that offers free personal grants to persons afflicted with cancer. Free funds are extended to treatment-related travel expenses including transportation, medicine and medical supplies.

The Leukemia and lymphoma Society is another organization that provides personal funds to patients in need. This program is supported entirely by public contributions.

Free grants are also available for students who intend to pursue their college studies. Pell Grants is one of the programs students can tap into to fund their advance studies. There are also a number of campus-based aid programs.

Pres. George Bush’s New Freedom Initiatives also give free personal grants to disabled persons. With the implementation and changes of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), 54 million Americans are now given the chance to receive free funds to improve their educational, employment and social opportunities.

The above-mentioned programs are just a few of the many personal grant programs available today, backed by private or public funds. Usually established for a cause like scholarship or cancer-treatment, free personal grants are there to ease your personal needs.

Skin cancer is the most common form of human cancer. It is evaluated that over 1 million new cases occur annually. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Skin cancer generally develops in the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), so a tumor is usually clearly visible. The two most common types are basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer. It accounts for more than 75 percent of all skin cancers. Squamous cell carcinomas arise from the upper levels of the epidermis, usually on places that have been exposed to the sun. Squamous cell carcinoma also can spread internally. They account for about 20 percent of skin cancers in the United States.Melanoma is generally the most serious form of skin cancer because it tends to spread (metastasize) throughout the body quickly.

They usually form on the head, face, neck, hands and arms. Skin cancer is most closely associated with chronic inflammation of the skin. Sunburn or excessive sun damage, especially early in life. UVA & UVB have both been involved in causing DNA damage resulting in cancer. Chronic non-healing wounds, especially burns.

Treatment for skin cancer and the precancerous skin lesions known as actinic keratoses varies, depending on the size, type, depth and location of the lesions. The best ways to lower the risk of non-melanoma skin cancer are to avoid intense sunlight for long periods of time and to practice sun safety. For low-risk disease, radiation therapy and cryotherapy (freezing the cancer off) can provide adequate control of the disease; both, however, have lower overall cure rates than surgery.

Interferon and interleukin-2 are under study to treat melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers. Wear sunglasses with 99% to 100% UV absorption to provide optimal protection for the eyes and the surrounding skin. Wearing protective clothing (long sleeves and hats) when outdoors. Photodynamic therapy destroys skin cancer cells with a combination of laser light and drugs that makes cancer cells sensitive to light. Avoid other sources of UV light. Tanning beds and sun lamps are dangerous because they can damage your skin. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Radiation may destroy basal and squamous cell carcinomas if surgery isn’t an option. Reapply sun block every 2 hours and after swimming. In chemotherapy, drugs are used to kill cancer cells.

Skin Cancer Treatment and Prevention Tips

2. Reducing exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially in early years.

3. Avoiding sun exposure during the day (usually from 10 AM to 3 PM).

My husband changed jobs before I was diagnosed. The last day of coverage was the day I had my surgery. Before the end of the month we had to go through COBRA to continue coverage beginning on the second of sept. It’s very, very expensive, but he has a 6 month waiting period for insurance with his new company. We, rather, he has to pay 910.00 for the 2 of us for 6 months total. He has to be included since he’s the primary on the insurance.
Bottom line, as long as you don’t go one day without coverage, they can’t deny you.

She’s right about HIPAA, but most companies don’t sign you up for coverage the day you start work, like husband’s last job did. So, if you have a waiting period, go through cobra for the number of months you’ll have to wait.
TD me all you want, I went through it firsthand. I was still in hospital when our insurance terminated. COBRA was our only option.
If you go longer than 63 days without coverage, that many over will be how long the pre existing cause is in affect for. Like, if you went 4 months with no coverage and the pre existing clause was a year, they would subtract 4 months from your year and you wouldn’t be covered for that condition for 8 months.
