How do I start a cancer foundation? I’ve looked around online and I keep finding different answers.?
Some sites say you need a lawyer, others say you need a lot of money to start one and then of course there’s the sites that just keep talking about tax write offs. I just want the basic idea behind the foundation. Is it possible for a normal/average everyday person to start one?
It will cost you some money to get started but you have to write and fill out forms to get it registered if you want it to be deductible for donors if you plan to have others donate too.
After you have a non profit the ongoing cost will be pretty high, you need an audit every year and have to file forms.
Getting enough money in your foundation to help people or find any cures is going to be very hard and rather wasteful. We have plenty of cancer foundations now so anyone can help at no more cost.
Only the very rich have foundations like the gates foundation or ford foundation most of us donate to the charities already existing. You can find plenty to who would love to have you collect donations for them or do the actual work running a lab or whatever you can do.
