Do you think that girls should be forced to take the cervical cancer prevention shot?

I don’t think any young girl should be forced to take a shot that they don’t want to take. Especially when they are only nine years old and not promiscuous or who does anything to get any HPV. I’d love to hear any other opinions out there.

no I dont think they should!

Seriously why not? It’s a vaccination just like the MMR or chicken pox. We give vaccinations for diseases that no one has seen for years. Why haven’t we seen these diseases for years?? Because we vaccinate. If you have a good reason for not wanting it then sure the 9 yr olds opinion should count but why not? Whats the harm?

The one reason I can think of for it being mandatory is that people’s insurance companies would then be forced to pay for it. It’s quite expensive and most people, even when they want it for their kids, can’t afford it right now.

I’m not sure how I feel about the shot itself. I’d hate to think that there’s actually a type of cancer that I can prevent my daughter from getting, but I can’t part with $200 to do it. If I wait until she is sexually active, then it’s too late…that’s the reason for getting it while they’re young.

    It’s a really good question.

forced?? I’m still in the age range and my doctor never even MENTIONED it! Plus doctors have to make sure its administered BEFORE the girl gets HPV. If she already has it then the shot isn’t going to matter.

I’ve seen chickenpox recently. I had them… about 10 years ago.

    No way!

For the exact reasons that are in the link below:

No way would I get this. I’d fight tooth and nail if I were "forced" to get this "vaccine".

First off, no one is forced to take it. Most doctors are highly reccommending it now. I wish I could take it, however my insurance doesn’t cover it and it would be completely expensive for me to pay out of pocket. Maybe that will change within a few years.

It’s just a good thing to do nowadays, even if you are young. Most of the population is made up of sexually active individuals and even if you are not a promiscuous girl, eventually you might end up with a very promiscuous man. You never know. For the HPV shot I really think most people are better safe than sorry.

I think every female should get the shot. I’ve been treated for cervical cancer and I can assure you that it’s not fun.
Why would you pass up the opportunity to prevent your own death?

In 2006 an estimated 10,000 women in the US will be diagnosed with this type of cancer and nearly 4,000 will die from it.

Hopefully at 9 years old no one is promiscuous! As far as the shot is concerned it is a preventative for cancer that was not available when my children were young. I would have made my daughters take the shot, it might just be the thing that saves their lives later on in life. You never know what diseases other people have contracted prior to having a relationship with you, so why take a chance. Shots are not fun to take, but the pain in there only for a minute but the protection is lifelong. Answer this…why wouldn’t you want to have that protection?

I think they should, I had my vaccine the other day and I can say I would much rather have a tiny pin prick from the needle then get the horrible disease.

    I am 12.

I should your choice .It your body no one should tell your what to do with your body. And i don’t think it should be given to nine year old .They should be able to wait till they are able to make up there own minds. Or when they come to there mom etc…and ask about the shot. And say if they wont it or not.And no can even till if the shot works every body is different.

you dont have to be promisuous to get hpv – its not like an sti, most people who are sexually active come into contact with it – so you can only have sex with 1 person and still be in contanct with it – and they may have only had you and one other – its not like hiv or clap.
I think everyone should have it and young – people are having sex younger and younger and the vacine only works before youv been in contact with it – as soon as your sexually active its useless- it doesnt encourage people to have sex either – just becasue they are protected doesnt encourage them – just becasue your protected from something doesnt mean your more liekly to seek it out – its not encouraging its jsut provention – why would anyone NOT want it???

oh and the reason measles is on the rise is because people stopped having it becasue off the mmr scare which they have now proven was a load of RUBBISH!!

no. There are still too many unknowns about this immunizations. We’re not sure there is any protection beyond 5 years. I do like the states that are assisting in the vaccination though. This is not necessary to require. It simply is not communicable the same way some of the required ones are.

I think it’s a great idea to have young girls take the shot. I was 17 when I was diagnosed with pre-cancer cells in my cervix. I had to go through biopsies and laser treatment for removal. I’ll tell you one thing I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and that was on pre-cancerous cause my doctor found it on time. Imagine what someone with full blown cancer would have to go through.
Let these young girls take the shot and not have to worry about these things. It’s a vaccination just like any other.
